I love Red Rock Country! The V Bar V site is a place that I have wanted to see since I first heard about it. It is one of 3 heritage sites around Sedona in the Coconino National Forest. Honanki and Palatki are the other two heritage sites.
This is one of the few sites in North America depicting a yearly calendar. The Sinagua Indians apparently used it to determine the growing and hunting seasons and mark other important days of their calendar year.

There is a circular glyph located on the left side of the panel, (just below the bottom shadow on the left edge of the panel), the shaft of light shines across this glyph on the vernal (spring), equinox.

This is the lighter rock wedged into the crack next to the solar panel, the edge that is visible was chipped into this shape. When sunlight shines across this edge it produces a shadow that matches the silhouette of the San Francisco Mountains that are considered sacred by many tribes.
A chimney is all that is left of the former homestead bearing the V-Bar-V logo stands at the trailhead.
